A Warm Welcome from the Director of Studies

St. Genevieve’s has a large sixth form with over 230students in the academic year 2011-12. We operate a ‘Consortium’ arrangement with our neighbouring boys’ school, De La Salle College, and as such are able to offer a broad and challenging curriculum. I am delighted that you are thinking of choosing St. Genevieve’s for your next step in education. Within a choice of 30 subjects at ‘A’ level or other Level 3 courses we offer subjects from Psychology to Politics and GCE Applied Single Award qualifications in Business, Leisure, ICT, and Travel and Tourism, not to mention BTEC Level 3 courses in Sports Studies and Health and Social Care. Diploma courses are available in Health & Social Care, Information Technology and Business Studies. We also offer Level 2 BTEC First Certificate awards in Media Studies, Health and Social Care, Children’s Care, Learning and Development and Travel and Tourism. Level 3 Awards are also available in Key Skills in ICT and the Certificate of Personal Effectiveness.

We have an excellent record of achievement at Advanced Level and are proud of the wide and varied curriculum in our Sixth Form. In addition to the option choices we also offer an enrichment programme to allow students to graduate from our sixth form with the best possible start to their future, whatever they choose to do. This programme involves such subjects as a Basic Food Hygiene Certificate, Text Processing, First Aid, Careers, Physical Education, Religion and Personal and Social Education. Students attending St. Genevieve’s are supported by a Form Tutor, Head of Year, Director of Studies and Subject teachers. Student progress is monitored closely and guidance is offered through our tutorial programme. Parents and students are informed about academic progress regularly. We aim to help our students achieve the goals they set for themselves during the Induction Programme.

Our Sixth Form students are encouraged to make a valuable contribution to the school. A full range of activities available to students is outlined in the prospectus. We expect all our students to set high standards for their achievement both academically and within the school community.
