Extra-curricular activities in the school are regarded as a valuable means of broadening curriculum experiences and promoting the development of positive attitudes. Council for Education in World Citizenship. Year 13 / 14 students participate in workshops and conferences organised by the Council for a number of schools in the Belfast area. Girls' Model Pupils from both schools work together in a variety of situations - workshops, conferences, sporting activities. Cultural Events Cross-community experiences continue to be an integral part of the Creative and Leisure Arts Programme - theatre, media etc. European Links Year 13 / 14 students are also in contact with schools in Sweden, Germany and Crossmolina in Ireland. It is hoped these links will be further developed this year via the Internet. European Science Project A project that allows contact to be established between a number of schools engaged in science projects. This is conducted through E-mail and the Internet. SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY LINKS Faith Friends Year 13 students share faith and friends with P3 and P7 girls from local primary schools. Peer Ministry Year 13 students share faith, friendship and values with year 8 students. Senior Retreats These are held either in St Louis House or at other venues for Year 13. Life Skills Seminar Year 13 St Genevieve’s/De La Salle Outside speakers/St Genevieve’s staff/Priest or Sister. Teenage Parenting A 6-week programme for parents of our pupils - in Sisters House - twice weekly. New Day Programme A 6-week programme on Faith and Culture which takes place in St Louis House in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere, followed by a residential weekend. Spirit of Youth Prayer Cell Group, Junior and Senior (Weekly) All students - spiritual formation - through prayer, movement and dance - in St Louis House. Community Action St Louis Missions-Brazil, Africa Food Hamper-Older Citizens Catholics Caring - Disadvantaged Children (Christmas present) Lenten Fundraising - Third World (Awareness is heightened by correspondence between year groups and Third World projects) Operation Santa - Romanian and Croation orphans. Down and Connor Lourdes Team Lourdes youth team is made up of 13 students who work with the sick as part of the Down and Connor Lourdes Team. Search A residential weekend in St Mac Nissis College, Garron Tower, Co Antrim for St Genevieve’s and La Salle Year 13 students. This is followed up by fortnightly extension meetings in St Louis House. This weekend is a spiritual human development experience. Our young people have been invited back as leaders which give them great self-confidence. At present our Search Group is being used as a model for the Diocese. In St Michael’s, the Search Group have formed 5 parish cell groups to help with faith development in the parish. Children’s Liturgy Year 13/14 students are being trained to help with the children’s liturgies on Sundays in the local churches. Link with Conor Rise Fold Sixth Form students will continue to interact with residents of the Fold and will invite them to event/celebrations within the school eg Christmas Carol Concert, School Show. |
